Unanchored Vessels

When the physical is all we see

And all we know,

Consumed are we

And dictated to

By the senses five.

Thus are we at the mercy of the elements:

Swept along are we

First one way

And then another

By the current of ignorant perspective;

Turned are we

First in this direction

And then in that

By the tide of popular opinion;

Swayed are we

First this way

And then that

By the ever-changing winds of social dictate.

Our sails are empty

But the seas around us are turbulent.

We sail in the direction of our choice

Not realising we but follow only

In the wake of the ships who sail before us.
